There is only one downside to finishing books as fast as I do, I don’t get much of a chance to blog about them. I’m on page 300 of The Kite Runner and only have about 50 left.

I’ve read books about violence against women, children, and teenagers. I’ve read about suicide, cutting, and drug addiction. I’ve read books about God and trying to make yourself a better person. But I haven’t read any books about race.

The Kite Runner is a book about what it’s like for people like Amir. Muslim, Afghani, and trying to find his way in a new country.

The book sort of sparked my thinking. I realized that I had I closed mind on this issue. I stereotyped middle eastern people by thinking they’re all bad, evil, and out to get the rest of us. Normally, it’s not like me to stereotype a certain race which is why I’m glad that I picked The Kite Runner as a read.

The book has all sorts of crazy twists and turns that you don’t even see coming. Some parts make you want to gasp and others make you want to cry. The way the book is written only makes it better. The writing is very raw and doesn’t leave anything to the imagination. I think that it only makes the book better. It makes the points it wants to make and gets your mind running. It tells you what it’s really like for people of this race and what they’re fighting for. It shows you how badly humans can treat other humans, and for no reason except that they feel like it.

It’s very eye opening, just like A Thousand Sisters, that in this day and age people can still treat people like this.

It makes me feel disappointed and angry in humanity while saddening me at the same time.

But throughout the story you also get to meet good people, like Baba, who built an orphanage for kids in needs. Or the young man that takes in all the children even though he doesn’t have enough supplies, food or room for them. And especially people like Amir, who risks & fights for his life to save the life of a young boy.

It shows you to never loose your faith in humanity.

Perfect by Ellen Hopkins.

I think this book will fit Novels perfectly. It’s a book that’s very relevant to normal teen issues of today’s society, as well as it is relevant to myself. Definitely a good book choice.
